News Release: “Der Fischer” Chosen for Singing Festival

For Immediate Release, March 5, 2007: A composition by John Michael O’Leary, commercial copywriter with Wordman Inc., will be performed in the 2007 National German Singing Festival in Evansville, Indiana.

John Michael set Goethe’s poem “Der Fischer” (The Fisherman) to music in 2002 for Germania Männerchor, Evansville’s German singing society. Music Director Charles E. Eakins has arranged the composition for strings with horn obbligato.

The triennial singing festival brings together choruses of the Nordamerikanischen Sängerbundes (North American Singers Union) for two evenings at Roberts Stadium. On Friday April 27, eight district choruses of 100 to 300 voices each will perform separately in an “Empfangsconzert.” On Saturday, April 28, the choruses will combine for a “Hauptkonzert.”

The festival represents the largest gathering of singers—approximately 1200 voices—ever to share a stage in Evansville.
