Vaudeville gave us some great gags, didn’t it? I like this one especially. Like good copy, it conveys a single idea with force and economy. Every word is essential. Although the joke stands without the word just, I think the defensiveness makes the punch a little funnier. What do you think?

  1. I love the Cockleburs. On large manuscripts they tend to turn into cacti and it hurts to remove them. This is a great image for writers to shed what they don’t need. Another interesting image is Sandra Cisneros’ ‘buttons’ which are bits and pieces that she weaves together to make stories.

Hope your retreat was as good as Greg’s. Seems he just about saved Kieth’s life.

All the best to you Mr. Wordman O’Leary

    • Thank you for your nice thoughts. Although we gathered in silence, I could feel a warm camaraderie, especially at table with Greg and company. I agree about the mishap. Keith’s guardian angel needed human heart and hands, and Greg was up to the task.
      Blessings to you!
