How many times have you heard something like this during a commercial break in the six-o’clock news?
Saint Miraculous Medical System is pleased to announce Doctor Joan of Arc has joined our internal medicine staff. Doctor Joan is now accepting new patients at her office on Bilocation Boulevard. . . .
If I or a loved one is in need of a doctor, this news may interest me, even gladden me. After all, acceptance is positive. It’s certainly better than rejection.
But I would feel warmer toward the good doctor had I been informed she is now welcoming new patients. I could imagine an outstretched hand, a sincere smile, even a ready interest in my well-being.
I think Saint Miraculous missed a chance to lay hands on the copy. What do you think?
